A Winton teatime discussion hosted by Michael Priestnall, Lead Technologist – Energy Catalyst at Innovate UK.
Abstract: “Energy Catalyst” is a competition for grant-funding aimed at accelerating the best of UK energy innovation (from academia & business) to commercialisation. The competition is run twice-yearly by Innovate UK and projects can be proposed and led by universities and spin-outs. It is co-funded by Innovate UK, EPSRC , DECC and DFID . Almost ÂŖ50m in grants has been committed to ~100 projects since 2014. The scope, rules and future direction of Energy Catalyst will be outlined and illustrated with some examples. Bio: Michael Priestnall is Lead Technologist in Energy for Innovate UK, which deploys an annual budget around ÂŖ0.5bn to support UK industrial technology innovation. Previously, Michael was a founder of three Cambridge energy venture companies, taking one to a listing on AIM , and also led Energy Consulting at Sagentia. Michael held an EPSRC Energy Research Fellowship at Cambridge (Materials) and was a British Gas Research Scholar in ceramic fuel cells at Imperial College.
