Abstract
Some translations attain a classical status comparable to the originals’. János Arany’s rendering of A Midsummer Night’s Dream (1864) is one of those texts in the Hungarian literary tradition. The editor of his Shakespeare translations at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Julia Paraizs, will explore why the National Theatre chose this play and Arany’s translation to celebrate the tercentenary of Shakespeare’s birth and what we can learn from ”mistranslations.”
