Quantum relay using semiconductor light sources (SP Workshop)
- đ¤ Speaker: Mr Ziheng Xiang (University of Cambridge, Semiconductor Physics Group)
- đ Date & Time: Wednesday 02 November 2016, 14:15 - 15:15
- đ Venue: Mott Seminar Room (Mott Building Room 531), Cavendish Laboratory
Abstract
The no cloning theorem guarantees the security in the quantum communication, making it valuable in terms of information safety. This talk will focus on the general idea of quantum communication based on the previous work done at Toshiba Research Europe Limited including the quantum information carrier, quantum cryptography (QKD), entangled photon pair generation and quantum teleportation (quantum relay). The principle of entanglement and the generation of entangled photon pairs on the using exciton and biexciton cascade in semiconductor quantum dots will be explained. The BB84 protocol of QKD will be shown for illustrating the quantum cryptography. The quantum relay and the current 1km prototype based on the quantum teleportation will finally be introduced and explained.
Series This talk is part of the Semiconductor Physics Group Seminars series.
