The Business Case for the Integral Molten Salt Reactor
- đ¤ Speaker: Louis Plowden-Wardlaw, Terrestrial Energy
- đ Date & Time: Tuesday 17 January 2017, 16:30 - 18:00
- đ Venue: Department of Engineering - LT6
Abstract
The business merits of Terrestrial Energy’s Integral Molten Salt Reactor, both in terms of cost of power and flexibility for use in industrial process heat and grid services, are considerable. North America is very much alive to these merits and is exploring them actively. Meanwhile there is a misapprehension in the UK that Advanced Reactors are not deployable in the current investment cycle. The lecture introduces Terrestrial Energy and its ambitions to deploy its reactor technology in the 2020’s and updates on the progress to date in gaining support from the wider power utility community and entering into the regulatory process.
