Fusion energy is at an early stage of development and commercial realisation is still relatively far away. Nonetheless it is important to shape the research to ensure that the product is attractive to investors and buildable by industry. I will discuss these issues with reference to recent experience with fission new build and the technological constraints on fusion systems.
