Abstract
Ultimaker and the development of fused filament fabrication 3D printing
Fused filament fabrication (FFF) is a 3D printing process that uses a continuous filament of a thermoplastic material fed from a coil through a moving, heated printer extruder head. Molten material is extruded from the print head’s nozzle and deposited to build up the workpiece in layers.
Daniel Abram will give a brief history of fused filament fabrication 3D printing, and how open source licensing helped to develop 3D printers as rapid prototyping machines. He will talk about the origins of Ultimaker and their machines, the development of 3D printing beyond prototypes, and the current and future applications of FFF 3D printing.
Daniel will demonstrate Ultimaker 3D printing machines and show samples of the parts that can be made.
