This paper tells the story of the Impressionist painters Max Liebermann, Lovis Corinth and Max Slevogt, and how their art was deployed by the German Foreign Office during the turbulent Weimar era. It questions the role of the artist in inter-war international politics, and challenges prevailing ideas about Weimar Culture and the German art world.
