'"Chantez la vie, l'amour, et la mort": the French 'chanson' in context'
- đ¤ Speaker: Henri Schmitt, Wolfson College

- đ Venue: Combination Room, Wolfson College
Abstract
This talk will concentrate on French songs with their links to politics and their social and historical context. These songs are rarely played by mainstream broadcasters, victims of censorship because of the sensitive issues they cover. I will use some examples from the past and then concentrate on the middle of the twentieth-century up to the present day, focusing on song lyrics and their authors.
