Abstract
The emergence of Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CAVs) has signalled the start of a revolution in transport that will change the way we live. CAVs are also fuelling research into the building of an Intelligent Transportation System (ITS), which is regarded as a key component in developing smart cities of the future. In order to explore this exciting area, Middlesex University, with help from the Department for Transport (DfT), has built an extended testbed for Connected Vehicles at its Hendon Campus in West London.
This talk looks at why and how the testbed was built, preliminary findings from the testbed as well as the challenges going forward that this work has so far highlighted. However, it is now clear that the development of an Intelligent Transportation System will probably also involve radical changes in communication and Future Internet architectures.
