Abstract
Recent trends in personality science have revitalized the study of personality dynamics. This development inherently reawakens interest in a set of challenges that were defining of the 20th-century’s “grand theories” of personality: (1) modeling the architecture of personality systems, (2) assessing elements of that system with sensitivity to the idiosyncrasies of individuals and their distinctive life contexts, (3) identifying and explaining cross-situational coherence in personality functioning, and (4) applying the tools of personality science to benefit therapeutic change. This talk will explain how these challenges are addressed by the Knowledge and Appraisal model of Personality Architecture (KAPA model), which capitalizes on prior social-cognitive approaches to personality and appraisal theories of emotion.
Series This talk is part of the Social Psychology Seminar Series (SPSS) series.
