Selection of characters via empirical processes

Let f_1,...,f_n be a bounded orthonormal system, and let k be less than n. I will discuss the problem in finding a subset I of cardinality greater than n-k such that on the span of the f_i, i in I, the L_1 norm and the L_2 norm are “comparable”. Instead of the classical method of selectors, we use empirical processes. I will describe some results about the supremum of an empirical process (proved via the use of majorizing measures).
