Abstract
In order to go to war, people must overcome both moral precepts against killing and their own fear of death or injury. Yet individuals seem willing or even eager to participate in war, despite these inhibitions. Drawing on years of research in human and primate behaviour, eminent biologist Robert Hinde will discuss the causes of war and outline possible steps for its elimination as a means of solving international conflicts.
