Abstract
The film, based on archival footage and interviews, explores Mikhail Gorbachev’s rise to power in 1985 and the reforms that sparked an independence movement in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. Yet, when the Baltic States asked the international community assistance it they were met with a muted response. It was then that Iceland stepped forward. The screenwriter of the film Those Who Dare, Kolfinna Baldvinsdóttir, reveals the remarkable story of her father’s involvement in the independence of the Baltic States as Iceland’s Minister of Foreign Affairs.
