DESCRIPTION:*Abstract*\n\nPositioning systems have gained maturity in rece
nt years\, and have enabled a plethora of applications from location-aware
content delivery in commercial applications to situation awareness in eme
rgency response scenarios. In this talk I will provide an overview of some
of the research challenges arising from developing positioning and identi
fication systems in the wild. I will then discuss probabilistic approaches
to handling noise at different layers of the system\, from low level sens
or noise\, to loop closure errors and trajectory-level distortions.
