DESCRIPTION:*Please note that there is quite a long waiting list for this
event. Please accept our apologies in advance if those on the waiting list
are unable to get in. We will endeavour to run these talks again in recog
nition of the level of interest*\n\n\nIn this special SciBar\, which is pa
rt of the British Science Week and Cambridge Science Festival\, we will ha
ve two speakers talking about the science of sleep\, dreams\, and consciou
sness.\n\nDr Valdas Noreika\, from the MRC Cognition and Brain Sciences Un
it\, will talk about “Jumping in Dreams While Being Paralysed in Bed: Th
e Science of Sleep and Dreaming”. Every night our minds go through compl
ex cycles of changing perception\, ranging from dreamless sleep to intense
nightmares and\, if we are lucky\, lucid dreams. Recently\, these extraor
dinary experiences\, as well as their clinical manifestations\, have been
linked to specific changes of the brain activity during sleep.\n\nDr Anat
Arzi\, from the Cambridge Consciousness and Cognition lab\, will talk abou
t “The unique interaction between sleep\, learning and olfaction”. Eve
n when we sleep our brain keeps on being active\, processing information f
rom the environment\, and consolidating memories. But can we learn new inf
ormation in sleep? and how is it all related to our sense of smell?\n\nThi
s event is now ticketed due to demand. Please book your free ticket here:
http://scibarsleep2018.eventbrite.co.uk\n\nTalks start at 7pm. Please arr
ive early.\nDue to a long waiting list\, it is unlikely for there to be sp
aces without a ticket. Apologies in advance.\n
