DESCRIPTION:Sedimentology and stratigraphy play a major role in the develo
pment planning of complex oil fields. In this talk I will present a case s
tudy from the Rumaila field\, Iraq\, where the process of geological descr
iption was completed ‘from scratch’ with an unusually extensive datase
 t. After a year-long investigation\, the major control on productivity was
found to be sedimentological\, directly impacting the future of the field
  for decades to come.\n
