DESCRIPTION:Any economist can tell you that whatever we do\, we can’t re
ly on unlimited resources. Fortunately\, Dr Rachel Glennerster is not just
any economist.\n\nDr Glennerster started her career at HM treasury and th
e International Monetary Fund. She has devoted her time to finding cost-ef
fective ways to alleviate global poverty. As Executive Director of the Abd
ul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab at MIT\, Dr. Glennerster helped establi
sh the Deworm the World Initiative\, a GiveWell-recommended charity which
assists in deworming millions of children a year. Now Chief Economist of t
he Department for International Development in the UK\, Dr. Glennerster is
aiming to help DFID make effective use of evidence to in the design of it
s programs and in its advice to governments in the “global south.”\n\n
She has co-authored the books Strong Medicine: Creating Incentives for Pha
rmaceutical Research on Neglected Diseases\, and Running Randomized Evalua
tions: A Practical Guide.\n\nCome along to see how academics can help figh
t poverty directly through their research. This talk will be of special in
