DESCRIPTION:The effect of geometirc imperfections on the seismic performan
ce of thin masonry shells\n\nSummary: The growing interest in tile vaulted
structures has led to the need to ensure their safety in seismic regions.
However\, predicting the behaviour of this type of structures in an earth
quake remains still a major challenge for engineers\, due to the complexit
y and uncertainty of the parameters involved in the problem. A good exampl
e is the variable nature of geometric imperfections which are likely to ar
ise due to the construction method employed. This study aims to investigat
e the effect of initial imperfections on the seismic capacity and seismic
buckling load of an unreinforced thin masonry shell structure using numeri
cal modelling. The method used for the modelling of imperfections and whic
h is based on real data obtained from on-site measurements\, will be prese
 nted.\n
