DESCRIPTION:As quantum computers scale up\, their potential applications h
 as been of great interest in recent years. In particular\, realization of 
 quantum computers in near-term quantum devices have been a subject of inte
 nse interest. Variational quantum algorithms\, which combines the advantag
 e of both classical and quantum computers\, have emerged as a new paradigm
 . In this talk I aim at introducing some of our recent results in variatio
 nal algorithms\, focusing on quantum chemistry\, quantum error correction 
 and quantum machine learning applications.
