DESCRIPTION:Steel-reinforcedconcrete\, cast in flat prismatic forms\, domi
nates multi-storey buildingconstruction around the world. Despite the flui
dity of the material\,opportunities to create efficient geometries through
manipulation of form arehabitually overlooked\, resulting in inefficient
cracked sections\, high steelrequirements and large carbon footprints. Thi
s project brings together moderndevelopments in computational design\, mat
erials and construction methods topropose a novel thin-shell concrete floo
ring system for multi-storey buildings\,creating a low embodied energy and
lightweight alternative to traditionalreinforced concrete flat slabs. The
proposed structure features thintextile-reinforced concrete shells spanni
ng between columns. Lightweight concreteis cast onto the shell in-situ to
create a level surface\, whilst also providingbuckling restraint and acous
 tic and thermal insulation.
