DESCRIPTION:Pascal Soriot\, CEO of AstraZeneca\, delivers the second annua
 l Kate Pretty Lecture on 'What Science Can Do: The Cambridge life science 
 cluster at a pivot point'\n\nThe Kate Pretty Lecture Series honours Dr Kat
 e Pretty CBE\, Principal of Homerton College (1991-2013) and Pro-Vice-Chan
 cellor of the University of Cambridge (2004-2010)\, responsible for intern
 ational strategy\, outreach\, lifelong learning\, and museums and librarie
 s. An archaeologist\, Dr Pretty served as President of the Council for Bri
 tish Archaeology from 2008-2013. Dr Pretty’s time as Principal saw the C
 ollege mark 100 years in Cambridge\, widen its expertise across subject di
 sciplines\, and eventually become a full College of the University of Camb
 ridge.\n\nThe first lecture in this new series was entitled ‘The Cambrid
 ge of Tomorrow’\, and was delivered by the then Vice-Chancellor of the U
 niversity of Cambridge\, Professor Sir Leszek Borysiewicz FRS. This lectur
 e took place on February 17 and over 200 guests attended\, both from the U
 niversity of Cambridge and the wider community. This year\, we are privile
 ged to welcome Pascal Soriot\, CEO of biopharmaceutical company AstraZenec
 a. AstraZeneca recently relocated their headquarters to Cambridge\, and we
  look forward to working with them more closely in the future.\n\nAs CEO o
 f AstraZeneca\, Pascal brings a passion for science and medicine as well a
 s significant experience in established and emerging markets\, strength of
  strategic thinking\, a successful track record of managing change and exe
 cuting strategy\, and the ability to lead a diverse organisation. He serve
 d as Chief Operating Officer of Roche’s pharmaceuticals division from 20
 10 to September 2012 and\, prior to that\, Chief Executive Officer of Gene
 ntech\, a biologics business\, where he led its successful merger with Roc
 he. Pascal joined the pharmaceutical industry in 1986 and has worked in se
 nior management roles in numerous major companies around the world. He is 
 a doctor of veterinary medicine (École Nationale Vétérinaire d’Alfort
 \, Maisons-Alfort) and holds an MBA from HEC\, Paris. In 2012 he became Ex
 ecutive Director and Chief Executive Officer of AstraZeneca.\n\nAttendance
