DESCRIPTION:Today's IT infrastructure requires large amounts of power\, mo
 st of which is generated by burning fossil fuels. In the data center alone
 \, the USA spent an estimated 61 TW-h in the year 2006. In this talk\, I'l
 l motivate the problem\, and discuss a promising technology -- server virt
 ualization -- which promises to vastly reduce the power consumption of dat
 a centers. I'll give an technical overview of Xen 3.x\, show some performa
 nce numbers\, and look ahead to what further solutions there might be to h
 elp us save the planet.
