DESCRIPTION:To realize true artificial intelligence\, it is essential to m
 ake computers understand the meaning of text. A bottleneck in text underst
 anding has been the lack of commonsense knowledge. However\, in recent yea
 rs\, this situation has been changing by automatic knowledge acquisition f
 rom the Web and the wisdom of crowds. In this talk\, I will introduce our 
 recent approaches to knowledge acquisition mainly for Japanese and text an
 alysis methods based on the acquired knowledge.
