DESCRIPTION:On a scale of decades to centuries\, the ice sheets over Antar
 ctica and Greenland flow as gravity currents. However\, unlike\, say\, gol
 den syrup on a plate\, ice sheets show significant slipping at their base.
  I will discuss simple models of this\, and their derivations\, based on t
 he rheology of ice\, and the basal conditions of the sheets.
