DESCRIPTION:Feature films have given many around the world their visions o
 f the past in recent times: whether of wars\, slavery\, the holocaust or i
 ndividual lives. Yet these influential accounts remain strangely marginal 
 to academic historical discussion\, beyond occasional review of their inac
 curacies. Using film sequences\, this talk suggests that feature film hist
 ory should be taken more seriously in the academy.
