DESCRIPTION:_Damian Clifford_\, Centre for IT & IP law\, KU Leuven<br>\n_S
 andra Servia-Rodriguez_\, Computer Lab\, University of Cambridge\n\n\n_Thi
s seminar will explore the tech-legal aspects of emotion detection_\n\nSan
dra will give a technical overview\, outlining research on inferring self-
reported moods using data collected from the most commonly used sensors in
smartphones. Sandra will also comment on the need and feasibility of runn
ing the detection locally on the device\, as a means to prevent privacy le
akages.\n\nDamian will explore how emotion detection fits within the regul
atory framework. For instance\, will such technologies/techniques necessar
ily fall within remit of data protection (privacy) regulations? And given
emotion/mood is a driver of human decision making\, how does the use of e
motion detection technologies\, particularly in advertising/marketing cont
exts\, relate to consumer and other legal protections?\n
