DESCRIPTION:Abstract:\n\nAberrant learning and memory underlie symptom-dev
elopment and maintenance in addiction\, anxiety and trauma-related disorde
rs. Using pharmacological and behavioural strategies in the critical perio
d of memory instability shortly after encoding or retrieval\, we are inves
tigating whether it is possible to overwrite or weaken maladaptive memorie
s in these disorders. In this talk I will outline some of the conditions t
hat might be important for reducing the maladaptive influence of aberrant
memories in heavy drinkers\, and for limiting the development of intrusive
memories in an experimental model of PTSD.
