DESCRIPTION:The Cambridge University German Society warmly invites you to 
 a talk with Bernd Westermeyer\, the headmaster of Schule Schloss Salem! \n
 \nSchule Schloss Salem is Germany’s largest and internationally best-kno
 wn boarding school. It was founded in 1920 by Kurt Hahn\, a highly influen
 tial German educator and private secretary to Prince Max von Baden\, the l
 ast Imperial Chancellor of Germany. Hahn was also the founder of Gordonsto
 un School\, Outward Bound\, The Duke of Edinburgh Award\, and the United W
 orld Colleges. ‘Educating to Take Responsibility’ is the distinguishin
 g element of Salem’s Hahnian educational approach. \n\nAround 600 pupils
  from more than 40 nations study at Salem either within the German Abitur 
 system or the International Baccalaureate programme. Notable alumni includ
 e: Prince Philip\, Duke of Edinburgh (he later attended Gordonstoun\, as d
 id his sons Prince Charles\, Prince Andrew\, and Prince Edward)\, Queen So
 fía of Spain\, Golo Mann\, and Hildegard Hamm-Brücher.\n\nBernd Westerme
 yer has been headmaster of Schule Schloss Salem since 2012. He studied Eng
 lish Language and Literature\, History\, Pedagogy\, and German as a Second
  Language at Bonn University and Wartburg College. Before moving to Salem\
 , he was headmaster of Landesschule Pforta from 2007 until 2012.\n\nAt our
  event\, Mr Westermeyer will give a talk entitled ‘Schule Schloss Salem 
 and Kurt Hahn’s Educational Legacy – Outdated or Model for the 21st Ce
 ntury?’.\n\nThere will also be time for questions. Please note that the
