DESCRIPTION:This presentation/workshop will provide insights into technica
l aspects of the REF\, including some 'backstage' processes and the all-im
portant question of the interpretation of REF criteria. Focusing on the 3
/4 boundary\, we will engage directly in peer assessment of three contrast
ing\, but high quality\, pre-circulated outputs. Finally\, we will stand
back from the immediacy of REF games to consider the longer-term issue of
how to develop academic careers which have the potential for producing wor
ld-leading research. There will be opportunities for discussion and quest
ions throughout.\n\n1. Understanding REF assessment processes and REF crit
eria\n\n2. Assessing outputs in REF terms (Perry\, Fuller\, Mitchell to be
  pre-circulated)\n\n3. Personal career strategies for 3/4 outputs\n\n*Reco
