DESCRIPTION:In the northermost part of Europe has lived a Sea Sami populat
ion for centuries. They had their own singing tradition (“yoik”) which
doesn’t exist any more. For the major part of the coast there exists no
documentation of these traditions.\n\nThrough interviews with old people
it was possible to document the last reminicents of this old tradition in
one particular fjord. The songs give glimpses of the life in this coastal
area.\n\nI will tell about this documentation project and present examples
from the tradition. A harsh norwegianisation was the main reason why it d
isappeared. I will look into how this happened and how the tradition was a
 ffected.
