DESCRIPTION:How can we use the past to better understand the present\, and
influence the future? A new wave of community involvement in the museum s
ector has produced a nuanced approach to bringing history to life. San Sal
vador\, a life-size replica of the first Spanish Galleon to reach Californ
ia in 1542\, was just recently built by local community members and the Ma
ritime Museum of San Diego. Six years\, and over six million dollars later
\, I will explore the values created between this large-scale community pr
 oject and the people involved.
