DESCRIPTION:The Arrol Adam Lectures were launched this academic year compr
 ising a series of six lectures on different aspects of "Risk"\, organised 
 by College President\, Dr Michael Potter. The free lectures are aimed at a
  general audience and are open to the public as well as College members.\n
 \nThe fifth lecture will take place on Thursday 21st February at 6pm in th
 e College auditorium and is entitled "Risk in Prisons".\n\nThe speaker is 
 Phil Wheatley\, Director General of HM Prison Service.\n\nPhil Wheatley jo
 ined the Prison Service as a Prison Officer in 1969. The following year he
  was promoted to Assistant Governor. In 1986\, having gained experience in
  high security and local prisons\, he became Governor of Hull Prison. In 1
 990 he was one of the first Area Managers to be appointed and managed a gr
 oup of prisons in the East Midlands for 2 years before becoming responsibl
 e for security policy\, population management and capacity planning at Hea
 dquarters. He joined the Prisons Board in 1995 in a newly created post as 
 Director of Dispersal Prisons (in charge of the 6 highest security prisons
 ). In 1999 he became Deputy Director General responsible for the operation
 al Service. In 2003 he was appointed Director General.
