DESCRIPTION:I review the life cycle of supermassive black hole binaries\,\
nfocusing on their gravitational interactions with stars\nin the galactic
nucleus\, which produce many interesting\nastrophysical phenomena: tidal d
isruptions\, ejection of\nhypervelocity stars\, formation of galactic core
s\, and\nof course\, the shrinking and eventual coalescence of the\nbinary
itself. I describe the challenges in modelling these\nsystems with conven
tional N-body codes\, and present an\nalternative Monte Carlo approach tha
 t overcomes these\ndifficulties.\n
