DESCRIPTION:Optimisation is a mathematical tool used across many areas of
applied mathematics. If you have a problem and want to know the `best' sol
ution to it then you must perform some optimisation and normally this take
s the form of an iterative numerical scheme. Surely the minimal expectatio
n is that this scheme will converge to the `best' solution? I will be expl
oring this topic and demonstrating some of the problems which arise when w
e go from a finite dimensional setting to the infinite one.
