DESCRIPTION:Effective Field Theories (EFTs) are a powerful tool for invest
 igating the presence of new physics beyond the Standard Model. I will brie
 fly review the status of the Standard Model Effective Field Theory and dis
 cuss a few aspects of how its parameters can be constrained with global fi
 t analyses\, while trying to minimize the assumptions on UV physics.\nAs a
  case study I will show the results of a fit to electroweak data\, that ex
 hibits instructive features\, among which the presence of two combinations
  of Wilson coefficients that remain unconstrained when the analysis is res
 tricted to 2 -> 2 scattering processes and whose origin can be understood 
 in terms of a reparameterization invariance.
