DESCRIPTION:This talk discusses both the theory and practicalities behind
the development of a social media platform designed to capture qualitative
'digital story' data of youth in challenging circumstances\, their famili
es and key workers alongside quantitative well-being scale data. This appr
oach is informed methodologically by an MEd carried out at the Education F
aculty in 2017\, this work is currently 'live' and being carried out by No
ise Solution\, a social enterprise operating across the East of England. T
heoretically informed by Self Determination Theory (Deci and Ryan) the org
anisations approach of 'one to one' music mentoring focuses on music techn
ology and beat making supported by the digital capture and sharing of par
ticipants musicking sessions with their specific chosen audience. This app
roach encourages participant family and professional keyworkers to view an
d engage through commentary around individuals hosted digital stories. To
gauge impact at a wider level\, well-being data from a scale developed by
the NHS and Warwick and Edinburgh Universities is collected and analysed w
ithin the platform across the population\, providing nationally benchmarka
ble quantitative data comparison. Equal amounts of qualitative and quantit
ative data are collected as a part of the organisations process\, rather t
han as an additional reflective analysis. The platform currently indicates
high statistical significance in positively impacting on the well-being o
f participants (p.000078) whilst allowing us to collate the digital narrat
ive of each and every participant. \n\nSimon’s background is a mixture o
f 25 years combined experience of working with young people in challenging
circumstances and an internationally touring musician\, specialising in m
usic technology. Founding Noise Solution in 2009\, the organisation is a s
elf-sustaining Social Enterprise using an innovative combination of one to
one music mentoring\, focussed on beat making\, and a bespoke social medi
a platform designed to engage family and professionals around participant'
s successful musical journey. Simon's work in this area is underpinned by
a research Masters\, undertaken at Cambridge University's Faculty of Educa
 tion in 2017.
