SUMMARY:A Critical Point for Science? - Prof. Brian Josephson\, Cavendish
 Laboratory

CONTACT:Prof. Brian Josephson
DESCRIPTION:Regular physics invokes fundamental theories that are implicit
ly matter-based\, with the corollary that life depends on special configur
ations of matter. A radical change in the the basic conceptual model lead
s to a state of affairs where at the deepest level behaviour of a biologic
al or cognitive character is the norm\, giving a very different perspectiv
e on phenomena such as insight and creativity\, as well as on processes su
ch as extra-sensory perception (ESP) that traditionally are considered ano
malies.\n\n_Note added after talk (21 Feb. 2008)_: the 'radical change' li
es in the assumption that fundamental reality has the form of a self-organ
ising critical system. Further details will be added later.
