DESCRIPTION:Abstract: \nThe ability to reach consensus between hosts\, whe
 ther for addressing\, primary election\, locking\, or coordination\, is a
fundamental necessity of modern distributed systems. The Paxos algorithm i
s at the heart of how we achieve distributed consensus today and as such h
as been the subject of extensive research to extend and optimise the algor
ithm for practical distributed systems. \n\nIn the talk\, we revisit the u
nderlying theory behind Paxos\, weakening its original requirements and ge
neralising the algorithm. We demonstrate that Paxos is\, in fact\, a singl
e point on a broad spectrum of approaches to consensus and conclude by arg
uing that other points on this spectrum offer a much-improved foundation f
or constructing scalable\, resilient and high performance distributed syst
ems.\n\nBio and photo are here http://hh360.user.srcf.net/blog/about-me/
