DESCRIPTION:Magnetic properties of materials dramatically depend on the\nd
istance between ions and on the volume available to each magnetic ion. In\
nthis course\, we will introduce a bird-view of the various possible effec
ts\nof pressure on the magnetic state and the applications of these effect
s on\nthe fundamental understanding of the magnetism in condensed matter a
nd to\nthe physics and chemistry of minerals in the interior of the Earth
and\nplanets.\n\nWe will give basic information about the experimental pos
sibilities offered\nby synchrotron radiation based techniques in order to
explore the magnetic\nstate of matter at high pressure\, their interest an
d feasibility. Finally\,\nwe will give some experimental highlights where
x-ray techniques using\nsynchrotron radiation have been successfully used
to show and explain the\nmagnetic state of matter at high density.\n
