DESCRIPTION:This two-lecture course is a compact introduction to the mathe
 matical discipline of Optimisation\, which involves finding the best choic
 e in some given scenario. It is an important topic for many tasks in Chemi
 cal Engingeering and Biotechnology\, for example in designing plant operat
 ions as well as in predicting protein folding. This short course will expl
 ain the types of variables in optimization problems\, different optimizati
 on problem formulations satisfying different requirements\, and finally th
 e development of modern solution methods.
