DESCRIPTION:At the heart of a secure software system is a small\, trustwor
thy\ncomponent\, called the Trusted Computing Base (TCB). However\,\ndevel
opers persist in building monolithic systems that force their\nusers to tr
ust the entire system. We posit that this is due to the\nlack of a straigh
tforward mechanism of partitioning – or\ndisaggregating – systems into
trusted and untrusted components. We\npropose to use dynamic libraries as
the unit of disaggregation\,\nbecause these are a familiar abstraction\,
which is commonly used in\nmainstream software development.\n\nIn this tal
klet\, I will describe some early ideas about our\n"disaggregated library"
approach\, which can be applied to existing\napplications the run on comm
odity operating systems. I will present\nthe high-level motivation for thi
s work\, and our ideas for how to\nimplement it.
