DESCRIPTION:Join Dr Eric Wolff from the British Antarctic Survey and Dr Ar
adhna Tripati from the Department of Earth Sciences as they unlock the cli
mate of the past from ice cores and sedimentary records. Dr Wolff will dis
cuss how ice cores have shown how climate and greenhouse gases worked toge
ther over the last 800\,000 years and that the challenge now is to use thi
s knowledge to understand how it will react to our influence over the next
century. Aradhna Tripati will describe what is known about the response o
f the oceans and climate to rising levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide\,
based on geochemical and fossil records of environmental changes during th
 e Paleocene-Eocene Thermal Maximum.\n
