DESCRIPTION:CollectiWise: a system for technology enabled Collective Gener
al Intelligence and Wisdom. Johannes Castner\, Columbia University.\n\nRec
ent academic and industrial research in the burgeoning field of collective
intelligence has shown that for specific tasks\, such as the prediction o
f unprecedented events\, crowds of interested and cleverly incentivized am
ateurs beat the performance of experts. This is also true for rather compl
ex\, structured conditional predictions in systems known as combinatorial
prediction markets. The results are astounding. Our system\, CollectiWise\
, is built to generalize these results and to accomplish collective genera
l intelligence\; a singularity (ever improving intelligence) not just thro
ugh artificial intelligence\, but through technology enabled collective in
telligence\, or multi-organism intelligence. This is accomplished by gener
alizing combinatorial prediction markets—building on the opencog AGI pla
tform—to include logical operators\, such as universal and existential q
uantifiers as well as ethical logic and the collective creation of ontolog
ies and ontological reasoning. Collectives can then plan\, reason\, unders
tand mechanisms in complex and high dimensional systems and make decisions
without\, or with reduced\, need for hierarchical power structures. Our w
ork has important implications for the future of work and for Sustainable
Development.\n\nSpeaker Bio\nJohannes Castner is a PhD candidate at Columb
ia University in Sustainable Development. During his research\, he found t
hat Collective Intelligence and Collective Wisdom are the crux of Sustaina
ble Development\, which thus would need to be aided by technology and AI.
The ideas Johannes developed during his PhD research lead him to found his
startup CollectiWise. Previously a data scientist at Ebay\, Johannes has
also held research assistant positions at the Federal Reserve Bank of Bost
on and The Earth Institute Centre for Environmental Sustainability in New
York.\n\nData Insights Cambridge announcement:\nI am pleased to announce t
he launch of Data Insights Careers (http://www.datainsightscareers.com)\,
the Data Insights community careers website for positions in data science\
, machine learning\, and artificial intelligence. - Sobia
