 of biodiversity (which species are most threatened\, where do they occur)\
 , the pressures upon it (what factors drive declines in populations and th
 e loss of habitats)\, and the responses required (which actions are most u
 rgent\, where are they needed). Using examples of recent and ongoing resea
 rch at BirdLife\, I will illustrate the type of science that is informing 
 the conservation programmes of the BirdLife Partnership.
