DESCRIPTION:The NASA Frontier Development Lab (FDL) is an eight-week progr
amme bringing together interdisciplinary teams to apply machine learning t
echniques to solve some of the toughest problems in space science. The cha
llenges include lunar localisation\, exoplanet classification\, and even s
earching for life beyond the solar system. In this talk\, Dr Fawcett share
s his experience at FDL\, discusses the benefits of interdisciplinary rese
arch teams\, and outlines opportunities to contribute skills from High Ene
rgy Physics to space exploration. Intertwined is the use of machine learni
ng techniques\, which show great promise for the future of space explorati
 on.
