DESCRIPTION:Classically\, counting closed geodesics is done in form of est
imates of\nthe number of geodesics of a given length. In this talk we want
to count\ndifferently\, namely by measuring how big the subgroup of the f
undamental\ngroup generated by closed geodesics is\, and how fast it is ge
nerated.\nWe will see that this word norm defined by closed geodesics on i
ts\ngenerated subgroup has infinite diameter on certain negatively curved\
nRiemannian manifolds using methods arising from geometric group theory.
