DESCRIPTION:From the perspective of urbanization\, the purpose of this pap
er is to review the evolution process of China’s land use policy in the
past 40 years systematically since the reform and opening up and to discus
s China’s land use policy in the future. The historical method and liter
ature research method were used. The result shows that China’s land use
policy is mainly divided into three stages: the foundation of urbanization
laid through the rural land system reform from 1978 to 1998\, land urbani
zation driven by a large number of industrial park development and housing
distribution monetization from 1998 to 2014\, and population urbanization
triggered by the new-type urbanization in 2014. Based on the path depende
nce of reform in the future and China’s population peak in 2030\, this p
aper puts forward land use policies from the perspective of urban-rural in
tegration\, including the housing supply system and housing tax system\, d
eepening of three rights division of rural residential land\, perfection o
f the permanent basic farmland system\, and compensable withdrawal mechani
sm of contracted land. In conclusion\, China’s land use policy in a long
run will be urban-rural integration under the principle of humanism and e
cological civilization.\n\n \n\nProf. Yuzhe Wu received his Ph.D. degree a
t Zhejiang University in 2005. In 2004\, he was awarded a doctoral fellows
hip from Lincoln Institute of Land Policy. He was a visiting scholar in Un
iversity of North Carolina at Chapel Hill during the period between 2011 a
nd 2012. Now he is the Head of the Department of Land Management at Zhejia
ng University. His research interests include urbanization\, land use poli
cy\, sustainable development\, and land use planning. He has published man
y academic papers in SSCI journals including Land Use Policy and Cities. H
e is also on the editorial board of Habitat International and Journal of U
