DESCRIPTION:Quadruplexes may find applications in areas ranging from nanot
 echnology (as nanodevices)\, biotechnology\, to medicinal chemistry. The 3
 ’ G-rich telomeric overhang may adopt a G-quadruplex structure. We have 
 identified several series of quadruplex ligands. Quadruplex ligands not on
 ly bind to preformed quadruplexes\, but increase the association rate of t
 hese structures\, acting as G4 chaperone agents. An enzymatic assay reveal
 ed that some\, but not all\, G4 ligands may affect the processivity of tel
 omerase. However\, their effects on telomerase are overestimated in the cl
 assical "TRAP" assay. Furthermore\, these compounds may also target non te
 lomeric quadruplexes. We are now exploring the sequence repertoire of intr
 amolecular quadruplexes by comparing a variety of sequences.
