DESCRIPTION:The conditions for fusion to occur in a plasma will be reviewe
 d. Fusion devices are plagued by kinetic plasma turbulence that convects h
eat from the middle of the plasma to the walls. The best fusion performanc
e is obtained when the turbulence is suppressed. Unfortunately when the ki
netic plasma turbulence is suppressed the pressure builds until an explosi
ve fluid (Magnetohydrodynamic) instability is triggered. I will describe t
hese filamentary instabilities and their explosive nonlinear dynamics. Eff
orts to find a soft pressure limit\, where the instabilities are not explo
 sive\, will be discussed.
