eality (VR) - Slawomir Tadeja (University of Cambridge)

DESCRIPTION:Visual Analytics is a term and research agenda coined by J.J.
Thomas that combines two things: "interactive visual interfaces" with the
"analytical reasoning" about the visualised data. Recent advancement and b
reakthroughs in development of the VR (Virtual Reality)\, MR (Mixed Realit
 y) and AR (Augmented Reality) has spun off another branch of research i.e.
immersive visual analytics (IVA). IVA tries to understand how the newest
wave of immersive technology can be leveraged and assist in creating even
more compelling\, more intuitive and more effective visual analytical tool
s.\n\nThe talk will focus on the VR-based interfaces. It will briefly disc
ussed challenges and known issues related to the design of such tools i.e.
how to mitigate the risks of the development of simulation sickness sympt
oms among the users\, what are the available modes of interaction at the m
oment or how to visualised multidimensional datasets using a variant of Pa
rallel Coordinates technique. Moreover\, examples of the VR-based IMVs wil
 l be shown.
